Guest Bedroom 2

Finishing Touches

To tie in the gold from the wall paper I ordered a nice gold, blue and white canvas from Next. I do love Next for homewares.

Beautify gifted me some gorgeous navy and gold storage trunks and I had already purchased bedside cabinets and a chest of drawers from Boutique Diamond Interiors. They are Oana smoked mirror and glass ones.

Bed & Bedding

I am really pleased with the bed. Arista Living gifted this to me in return for promoting on my Instagram page. Their beds are a 3 click order process which I found great fun. You choose the base, colour and headboard and as you change selections you can see how the bed will look. I chose the ottoman storage bed as you can never have too much storage right? It has ample storage and was very easy to put together.

The bedding was also gifted to me by Julian Charles. I opted for a classy white paisley design duvet set with a royal blue throw and cushions.

Oops Wrong colour

In my head I had ordered navy and silver wall paper, so I chose grey carpet, silver curtains and a grey bed. The room has been planned as a navy and silver theme.

The paper has arrived and it is navy and gold! Totally my fault for not paying attention when i ordered it. The wall paper was gifted to me by ILoveWallPaper and i do love it.

Too late to change the colour scheme now as the curtains from Curtain Express and the new bed has been delivered by Arista Living and our local carpet fitter has laid the carpet.

Starting to come together now

As soon as the plaster had dried we set to work with adding the mist coat followed by 3 main white coats. I decided to have one feature wall and was brave with my choice.

I tend to go for neutral colours then add splashes of colour with accessories and soft furnishings. This room is going to be Navy and silver.

plaster - Smooth as a babies bottom

I booked the plasterer in to come back in a few weeks’ time. My husband added steel bars where the cracks in the wall are which we think were caused in an earth quake we had a number of years ago. He added mesh over the top.

I LOVE freshly plastered walls, that feeling of smoothness and if I’m honest I also like the colour when it dries.

Old plaster

So the time has come to start working on the 2nd guest bedroom. First job is to remove the old wood chip from the ceiling and wall paper from the walls.

One evening after work I decided to get the steamer out and start on the walls. OMG what a mistake, I was literally holding the steamer for seconds and the plaster behind started to crack and pop. Luckily one of our friends who is a plasterer was there so I called him to see what was going on.

He told me just to carry on and to pull ALL of the old plaster off the wall. This quickly resulted in my turning the steamer off and leaving the room.

A few days later when I was feeling less disheartened I went back to it. What I thought would be a quick job turned into days and days of work.
